CBS Hints At Offering NFL Games On All-Access Streaming Service, Raising Price

CBS "hinted again that NFL games could eventually be offered on CBS All Access, its $5.99 per month streaming service, though the price would need to rise," according to Paul Bond of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. CBS COO Joe Ianniello said Thursday at Nomura's Media & Telecom Conference, "The math, from where we sit, is pretty exciting. There's definitely upside value. The $6 seems to be the right price point without it, and we'll see where it goes if we can obtain it. But it's going to be win-win. It will be a win for the NFL, a win for CBS and a win for the consumer. ... There's absolutely value in that product." Bond wrote negotiations with the NFL are "obviously progressing slowly, as CBS CEO Leslie Moonves said five months ago that it was his goal to put NFL games on CBS All Access." Without divulging numbers, Ianniello said that CBS All Access "has more subscribers than SlingTV" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 8/13).

COMPOUNDING INTEREST: NBC's Al Michaels said the net's season-opening Steelers-Patriots game would draw "gigantic interest," even if Patriots QB Tom Brady is ineligible to play. In L.A., Martin Miller writes the game "seems like a dream match-up for fans -- and a network looking for ratings." Members of NBC's "SNF" staff admitted Thursday during the summer TCA media tour in Beverly Hills that they "don't know what's going to happen" (L.A. TIMES, 8/14).

BILL'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE: NFL Network on Sept. 9 will air a one-hour show, titled "Do Your Job: Bill Belichick And The 2014 Patriots," a behind-the-scenes look at last season's Super Bowl-winning Patriots as told by Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Owner Robert Kraft, President Jonathan Kraft and the rest of the coaching staff. It is the first time NFL Films has had access to interview and tell the story of a team's season through the recollections of an entire coaching staff (NFL).
