YouTube’s 360-degree Videos Are Giving Fans A Unique Experience

Although our summer is coming to an end, the best season of the year is finally coming into full swing as football preseason is right around the corner. But for anyone who cannot wait for opening weekend, University of Oregon released a video that will be sure to pump up fans in the mean time.

The 360-degree video allows fans to experience the walk through at Autzen Stadium tunnel with Oregon players running out onto the field. The footage is from their 2014 Michigan State game and it is far from a normal video.

Viewers can get a great sense of inclusion as the players run forward, but the unique thing about this video is that it allows viewers to change the direction of where they are looking. Look at the 54,000 fans filling the stands or get in the face of players running behind you. It’s up to the viewer.

Mode Adjust captured the footage for Oregon. It is a brand-drive design and live action production company that produces original work for clients. An employee wore a special helmet with cameras to capture all the angles as he ran out onto the field. “It wasn’t specifically shot for YouTube,” said Oregon assistant AD for communications, Andy McNamara. “But obviously YouTube’s new technology is a great fit for it.”

YouTube’s new 360 channel gives a different perspective for viewers. Fans are able to put themselves in a music video or gain a new viewpoint of space with the 360-degree videos. And sports teams will be able to provide entertainment to fans to relive their favorite moments or even give backstage passes to see locker rooms. And as we wait just a few more weeks for football, Oregon has given us a one of a kind experience with this new video tech from YouTube.
