NFL Giants President & CEO John Mara yesterday appeared on WFAN-AM's "Boomer & Carton," and said he thinks a franchise in L.A. "will certainly happen." Mara: "There is a good chance there will be two teams playing there next year in a temporary facility. And if not next year, at some point after that, I do think there will be two teams." He added, "It makes sense for them both to be in the same facility. It is so expensive to build these buildings these days, and the public funds are just not there. And it just makes all the sense in the world, if you can form a good partnership ... to have two teams in the same building" ("Boomer & Carton," WFAN-AM, 8/3). Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones on Saturday said, "I see a team, imminently, in Los Angeles." In L.A., Vincent Bonsignore notes Jones "would not ... guarantee a timeline that brings the NFL back to L.A. by next season -- even though for the past few years Jones has consistently pointed" to the '16 season. Jones also "would not elaborate on the specifics of what the NFL will focus on when they finally sit down to decide who ends up" in the city. For Jones to be "a bit tight-lipped Saturday seemed a bit curious," and it "can be read a couple different ways." The NFL is "applying the brakes on a return" to L.A. in '16, or it is "entering such a crucial stage in the process it is being careful with the information flow" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 8/4).
