WNBA BOG Approves Tulsa Shock Move To Arlington; Minority Owner Still Pursuing Lawsuit

The WNBA BOG on Thursday "voted unanimously" for the relocation of the Tulsa Shock to Arlington beginning with the '16 season, according to Eddie Sefko of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The Shock -- who "may be getting a nickname change, as well -- will play at College Park Center on the campus" of Univ. of Texas-Arlington. The team "will begin to move operations after the current WNBA season ends." The arena "can accommodate up to 7,000 spectators." Shock Majority Owner Bill Cameron said that the "idea to choose Arlington over perhaps SMU’s Moody Coliseum or American Airlines Center was that the sports heartbeat of the area has continued to pulse stronger in Arlington than Dallas" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/24). In Tulsa, Dillon Hollingsworth notes the franchise "confirmed the results of the vote in an email to its season ticket holders Thursday afternoon." Minority Owner Stuart Price on Monday announced that he had "filed a lawsuit to try to keep the team in Tulsa." Price in a statement released Thursday said that the suit "will continue" (TULSA WORLD, 7/24).
