Braves, Live Nation Partner On New Roxy Theater Adjacent To SunTrust Park

The Braves and Live Nation have "struck a deal to develop and manage the long-planned entertainment venue adjacent to SunTrust Park that will bring back a familiar name to the region’s music scene -- the Roxy Theatre," according to J. Scott Trubey of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The venue will "have standing room-only capacity for 4,000 and feature about 40 music and comic shows annually." The theater is "designed to help drive activity to the site on non-gamedays." The Braves and Live Nation said that it will also "play host to special events." Atlanta’s original Roxy was a "classic downtown theater on Peachtree Street." Braves Owner Liberty Media "has a minority stake in Live Nation." The theater will be "on the northern end of the central plaza connecting the stadium to the adjacent mix of residences, restaurants, shops and offices" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 7/17). Braves Exec VP/Business Operations Mike Plant said that the club will "own and build the Roxy Theatre and Live Nation will operate it." He added that the Braves also "have the option of holding their own events at the venue," as long as it "doesn’t conflict with events already booked" (MARIETTA DAILY JOURNAL, 7/17). Braves Exec VP/Sales & Marketing Derek Schiller said that the Braves "soon expect to announce a slew of retailers and restaurants for the development, calling the tenant interest 'vibrant.'" In Atlanta, Couret & Wenk noted Shake Shack is reportedly "in early talks for a spot at the mixed-use development" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 7/16).
