WNBA Sun Sign First Marquee Sponsor Deal With Frontier Communications

The WNBA Sun have reached a multiyear deal with Connecticut-based telephone service company Frontier Communications, making it the marquee sponsor of the team. Frontier's logo will be displayed on the front of the Sun's home and road jerseys, as well as on the basket stanchions at each end of Mohegan Sun Arena. Frontier also will have visibility on LED rotational and courtside signage at all Sun home games. Additionally, Frontier will be included in the team's TV broadcasts and merchandise, as well as links on the club website (Sun). In Hartford, John Altavilla reports the three-year deal is "worth more" than $1M in total. Frontier is the "first marquee sponsor of the team, a business relationship that aligns Frontier with one of the state's gambling, dining and shopping destinations." This is the "first affiliation for the Sun franchise." Frontier is the "ninth corporate marquee sponsor currently affiliated with a WNBA team" (HARTFORD COURANT, 7/15). In New Haven, Henry Chisholm notes the team name “has been replaced" on the front of the jerseys with “Frontier.” Sun CEO Mitchell Etess admitted that the team "did like having Sun emblazoned on the front of its uniforms." Etess: "Honestly we didn't push (finding a marquee sponsor.)" But Sun VP & GM Chris Sienko said that finding a marquee sponsor "did not take long" when the team decided to find one. Sienko: "This literally all happened within the last six months" (NEW HAVEN REGISTER, 7/15).
