Morgan Leads Parade Of U.S. Women's Soccer Players Who Could Cash In With WC Win

Several members of this year's U.S. Women's World Cup team are making "strategic investments in their image and cashing in at just the right time,” according to CBS' Jericka Duncan. U.S. F Alex Morgan is “one of only a few women who can make a living playing professional soccer," as her "skills and image will earn her more than $1 million this year.” Dan Levy, Morgan’s agent at Wasserman Media Group, said Morgan is “marketable because she scores goals." Levy: "What comes with that as well is someone that really enjoys people, enjoys connecting with her fans and companies and brands see that.” Morgan, who endorses Nike, Nationwide Insurance, Mondelez Int'l and Panasonic, among other companies, said, “I would never get any of those endorsements or sponsorships if it wasn't for the work I put in on the field. I remember that every single day, and I know that that's my priority" ("CBS This Morning," 6/29). Baker Street Advertising Senior VP & Exec Creative Dir Bob Dorfman noted that should the U.S. win the World Cup, Morgan "would probably be the biggest winner" and F Abby Wambach also "could cash in." With the U.S. playing Germany tonight in the semifinals, Dorfman said that any of the players "could become a hero with a key goal or penalty kick" (MONEY.CNN.com, 6/25).
