NFL Seeks Expert For Newly Created Role Of Dir Of Digital Forensic Investigations

The NFL "is looking to hire a cyber czar similar to the role" MLB VP/Information Security & Special Projects Neil Boland has -- "a digital forensics expert," according to Christian Red of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The job posting said that the role "will have an emphasis on properly investigating and handling evidence related to social media, computers, telephones and mobile devices" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/30). NFL VP/Communications Brian McCarthy "acknowledged that the position was newly created as 'part of our enhanced personal conduct policy that includes more robust internal investigative procedures.'" ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted "following criticism with dealing with" free agent RB Ray Rice's assault of his then-fiancée Janay Palmer, the league "hired three women in September to address concerns in the future." As the group "helped shape a new policy regarding domestic violence, the league also felt it needed to rely less on law enforcement authorities to tell them what it knew." The NFL is "looking to fill the job with a person who has experience with conducting criminal investigations of all kinds, has a strong network with law enforcement and understands forms of social media" (ESPN.com, 6/29).
