Fox Sports To Make U.S. Open The First-Ever Live Multicamera Virtual Reality Broadcast

California-based tech company NextVR has partnered with Fox to offer live streaming coverage of the U.S. Open in virtual reality. The live VR broadcast will be made available to fans visiting select hospitality areas at Chambers Bay. Five camera rigs will be placed in key locations around the course, and NextVR described the effort as the first live multicamera VR broadcast ever. NextVR also will make the live VR coverage available in Fox Sports locations in L.A., N.Y. and Vancouver. NextVR co-Founder D.J. Roller said, “It’s a major milestone for both companies.” After the event, highlights from the U.S. Open will be part of a NextVR portal scheduled to be available through several VR devices, including those made by Oculus, Samsung and Sony. NextVR and Fox Sports previously worked together around VR experiments in the net’s NASCAR coverage.
