Mets Saw Revenue Dip At Citi Field Last Season For Fifth Consecutive Year

The Mets for a fifth consecutive season "saw a dip in revenue generated at Citi Field," as the ballpark took in a little more than $117M in revenue in '14, $2.2M less than in '13, according to Mike Vorkunov of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. It is a 35.1% "decrease from the amount Citi Field accumulated" in '09, the ballpark's inaugural year. The '14 numbers "coincided with a sixth consecutive losing season" for the Mets. The team drew 2,148,808 in attendance last year -- a 0.6% increase from '13, but the gain "came with a small cost." The Mets, through Queens Ballpark Co., pay $500,000 annually in rent and an "additional $500,000 if attendance eclipses two million fans." A Mets spokesperson said that through the team's first 21 home games this season, attendance "is up" 4.8%, with average weekend attendance also up 26.5%. Meanwhile, the Mets "took on an added cost this year," drawing a $4M loan in February to "install and construct an LED video sign in the parking lot adjacent to Citi Field" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 5/21).
