Virtual Reality Company Gains Serious Sports Tech Advisory Board Members

NextVR, a California-based technology company, has announced its launch of a new Advisory Board consisting of three inaugural members who will assist in strategizing the company’s future growth.  The board’s members include Doug Perlman, Founder and CEO of Sports Media Advisors, Scott Teissler, formerly of Turner Broadcasting, and the Chair, Peter Guber, Founder and CEO of Mandalay Entertainment, head of Dick Clark Entertainment and co-owner of the Golden State Warriors.  Guber, who will also make a strategic capital investment, brings with him expertise in entertainment, and sports and broadcasting.

“We’re thrilled to formalize our relationships with these three individuals who are each outstanding in their own fields,” said Brad Allen, Executive Chairman, NextVR.  “As we prepare for NextVR to play a leading role in live-action Virtual Reality, the Advisory Board will support our mission to bring world class entertainment and sports media properties into this new medium.”

NextVR is no stranger to sports, news and entertainment groups either.  Having completed successful tests with the NBA, NHL, Fox Sports, NASCAR and even the band Coldplay, NextVR is ready to go to the next level.  The Advisory Board intends to provide strategic advice to NextVR as it plans to expand its mission of virtual reality as a mainstream digital platform this year.

“For those who haven’t experienced it yet, it’s hard to imagine what NextVR is capable of delivering with their live virtual reality technology. They have engineered the closest thing to putting you in the best seat in the house virtually that is possible,” said Guber.  “It’s a game changer for live sports, festivals, concerts, shopping, and travel.”

With NextVR’s patented technology  (over 23 granted and pending for virtual reality technology), it is capable of transmitting live high definition, three-dimensional virtual reality content over the Internet delivering a completely immersive and life-like experience for the viewer.  A custom lens-to-lens system captures and delivers live and on-demand virtual reality experiences in true broadcast quality.

DJ Roller and Dave Cole founded NextVR, located in Laguna, California, in 2009. Originally, the two wanted to produce stereoscopic 3D broadcasts (Roller was involved with filming the first NBA All-Star Game in 3D in 2007). In 2012, they decided to move toward virtual reality broadcasting, and as they say, the rest is history.

For now, you will need an Oculus-powered Gear VR Innovator Edition headset from Samsung.  You will also need to purchase the $299.99 two-year contract for the Galaxy Note 4 tablet which is required to power the virtual reality headset.   Several major companies such as Microsoft, HTC, Apple and Sony are all to compete with Samsung by developing their own VR gear.
