UAB Names Temple's Mark Ingram Its Next AD; K-State Restructures AD Currie's Deal

UAB on Friday announced Temple Exec Senior Associate AD Mark Ingram, who has "deep roots in the south," as its next AD, according to John Talty of the BIRMINGHAM NEWS. Ingram "played football and worked at Tennessee" and also "spent time at Georgia and Missouri." He was "one of the three finalists identified by the 19-person search committee and Parker Executive Search." UAB "picked Ingram over" Iowa State Senior Associate AD/Student Services David Harris and Arkansas Senior Associate AD/Administration & Governance Jon Fagg. Ingram's background is "in development, which should serve him well at the Conference USA school." He "played a lead role in Tennessee's Capital Campaign," which raised $335M. Ingram said he was "humbled and honored with the opportunity." Ingram "replaces Brian Mackin who stepped down days before UAB announced it was disbanding its football program." UAB Senior Associate AD Shannon Ealy had "served as the interim athletic director since December" (AL.com, 5/1).

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE: In Topeka, Ken Corbitt reported Kansas State AD John Currie "signed a restructured contract Friday that adds one year to his deal." Currie’s contract "runs through June 30, 2020," and his annual salary "will increase to $775,000" beginning in '15-16. While Currie's previous contract allowed him to earn up to 55% of his $575,000 salary "in performance related incentives," such bonuses have been "removed" from his new deal. Currie was hired as Kansas State's AD in May '09 (TOPEKA CAPITAL-JOURNAL, 5/2). The AP's Dave Skretta noted Currie's new deal "turns the compensation" he could have received in the form of athletically related bonuses under his previous contract "into guaranteed salary" (AP, 5/1).
