Franchise Notes

In Ft. Worth, Clarence Hill notes Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, who "once promised he would be involved in everything from socks to jocks finally acknowledged he is no longer the final decision-maker when it comes to players." Cowboys COO & Exec VP Stephen Jones, who is the man "signing the checks for the Cowboys, is the captain now." Whether it is with coach Jason Garrett "deciding how the players fit on the field or Stephen Jones making it all work financially, the Cowboys finally have the right structure in place to make sound decisions to build a successful team in the salary cap era" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/29).

CHEATING THE CHILDREN? In St. Louis, Jennifer Mann reports the MLB Cardinals are suing The Leagues of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which runs the Lewis & Clark Baseball League, "for fraud, alleging that it scalped thousands of choice game tickets for a profit that were supposed to be used to support youth baseball." The suit claims the nonprofit "was allotted 3,500 tickets last year at a discounted price through the team’s Cardinals Care program." It contends the charity "began selling the tickets for above face value on StubHub," including a May 26 matchup against the Yankees during what was Derek Jeter’s final season (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 4/29).

ALL INCLUSIVE
: In Sacramento, Ryan Lillis reports the NBA Kings have "launched a sign-up list for fans who want to secure season tickets in the new downtown arena." The list is for fans who "do not currently have season tickets at Sleep Train Arena." Kings Senior Dir of Communications Laura Braden said that "more than 1,000 people signed up for the season ticket list in the first 12 hours after it was released on Monday" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/29).
