Nice Shot: Klay Thompson Adds To Growing Sponsor Portfolio With ShotTracker

Wearable tech firm ShotTracker, a "set of devices that help basketball players improve their shooting," has signed a multiyear endorsement deal with Warriors G Klay Thompson, according to Glen Hack of the K.C. STAR. The deal includes a "virtual basketball camp June 21-28 with workouts and drills designed by Thompson." ShotTracker uses a "sensor on a basketball goal and another on the shooter's wrist, along with software that can be accessed from a mobile device such as a smartphone, to track a player's makes and misses during shooting drills." As part of the deal, Thompson will give "advice on improving the product" (KANSASCITY.com, 4/27). In S.F., Ron Leuty participants in the June camp will be sent "daily video workouts" from Thompson and his trainer, Charlie Torres. Players "will track their stats and see Thompson's own results" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/27).

MOLDING KLAY: Thompson’s marketability was discussed last night on CSN Bay Area's "Yahoo Sports Talk Live," with the net's Jim Kozimor saying, “He’s a nice, likable guy, but he’s not flamboyant.” CSNBayArea.com’s Monte Poole said Thompson has “great representatives around him, and he has a shot." Poole: "That makes you marketable when you have a shot, when you have a skill that’s one of the best in the league like he does. That automatically helps you. Then you add the fact that he’s on a team that right now is blowing up around the league -- everybody’s watching this team. Everywhere they go, there’s Warriors fans in the arena. That has to help him, too.” The S.F. Chronicle’s Scott Ostler: "He’s perceived, and I think he is, as a good guy” (“Yahoo Sports Talk Live,” CSN Bay Area, 4/27). In addition to ShotTracker, Thompson has deals with Anta, sports drink Body Armor and sock company Stance, which yesterday landed an agreement with the NBA (THE DAILY).
