Sports Entertainment Notes: NBA Kings Documentary Debuts At Tribeca

"DOWN IN THE VALLEY," a 77-minute film about how Sacramento was able to keep the NBA Kings from relocating, debuted Friday at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie is scheduled to air as part of ESPN's "30 for 30" series in the fall. The film tells the story "in a way that is meant to resonate with people far beyond the borders of Sacramento." Director JASON HEHIR said, "This story shows why sports matter so much in communities." Former Kings co-Owner GEORGE MALOOF is the film's "unquestioned villain," as is Seattle-based hedge fund manager CHRIS HANSEN. Hansen in the film is "surprisingly contrite and humble after being battered publicly" and losing a non-refundable $30M in his attempt to buy the Kings. Hansen "was not at Friday's screening" in N.Y., but Maloof "did show up." Hehir's film "reminds the audience that the best years in Kings franchise history" were when the Maloof brothers owned the team (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/26).

SIGHTS & SOUNDS: Redskins WR DESEAN JACKSON will "be part of a new reality show" premiering in June on BET called "DESEAN JACKSON: HOME TEAM." The series is produced by Rogue Atlas Productions in association with Lionsgate Television. ELI FRANKEL, RYAN HOLCOMB, ELISE DURAN and BYRON JACKSON will join the NFLer as exec producers (VARIETY.com, 4/23)....Rock & Roll HOFer BILLY JOEL will “play the final concert at Nassau Coliseum” on Aug. 4, which will mark his “32nd appearance at the venue.” The concert “will be the first show at the Coliseum" handled by Forest City Ratner Chair & CEO BRUCE RATNER. Joel also “performed the final concerts” at Shea Stadium in ’08 (NEWSDAY, 4/25)....Rock & Roll HOFer ERIC CLAPTON is scheduled for shows Friday and Saturday at MSG, but with the chance the Rangers “could host a second-round game against either the Islanders or Capitals on one of those days, Clapton might get bumped.” A postponed show “would be moved to Sunday” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/27).
