Four cities -- Austin, Tucson, Little Rock and Orlando -- have "applied to the NCAA to add new bowl games" for the '15-16 college football season, according to sources cited by Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com. There would be "a record 43 bowl games" if the cities' applications are "approved as expected." Yesterday "was the deadline for cities seeking to add a new bowl," and the NCAA will "make a decision in a few weeks whether to approve the games." The Cure Bowl in Orlando "already has a TV deal with CBS Sports Network." It is "set for Dec. 19 at the Citrus Bowl," featuring teams from the AAC and Sun Belt. The bowl in Tucson, "tentatively named the Arizona Bowl," will be held at Arizona Stadium "featuring teams from the Mountain West and Conference USA." The bowl in Little Rock, "to be held at War Memorial Stadium, will pit teams" from the AAC and Sun Belt, while the bowl in Austin will feature teams from the AAC and C-USA. It is not known yet where the Austin bowl would be played, but a source said that it will take place at either at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium "or in the Austin area." A source said that FS1, CBSSN or NBCSN "are the likely networks that would televise the new bowls." Sources said that ESPN, "which televised 38 of the 39 bowl games last season, does not have any interest in televising any of the new bowls" (ESPN.com, 4/1).
