People & Personalities: Former NFLer Coy Wire Joins CNN Sports

Former NFLer Coy Wire has joined the CNN Sports team as a full-time anchor and contributor, where he will be anchoring Bleacher Report for the HLN Weekend Express segments. The deal for Wire was negotiated by CSE Dir of Broadcasters & Talent Representation Kim Garner. Wire played nine years in the NFL before becoming a CSE broadcasting client in ‘12. He worked for the Pac-12 Networks and Fox Sports, and as a contributor across CNN properties before landing his permanent role with CNN Sports (Liz Mullen, Staff Writer).

REGRETFUL REMARKS: CSN Chicago reporter Aiyana Cristal responded to sexist remarks last week by WSCR-AM’s Dan Bernstein, writing on her Twitter and Facebook feeds, "Progress has been made for women in sports but we still have a long way to go." Bernstein last week apologized for his remarks in a Twitter conversation with WSCR's Matt Spiegel, saying, "I'm an idiot." The Association for Women Journalists-Chicago in a statement said while apologies from Bernstein and Spiegel are a "necessary first step, they simply do not go far enough" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 3/30).

WE'RE ALL DAY-TO-DAY, RIGHT? In San Jose, John Hickey noted A's radio play-by-play announcer Ken Korach "will miss this week's Bay Bridge exhibition series," as well as the team's first homestand against the Rangers and Mariners, and "the first regular-season trip." Korach "has been rehabbing" his left knee "since suffering an injury" (MERCURYNEWS.com, 3/30).

NOTES: Keith Russell, who "most recently worked" at Philadelphia-based WXTF-Fox, is joining KTVT-CBS as a sports anchor (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 3/30)....L.A.-based KFWB-AM named Tom Lee Program Dir. Lee is returning to L.A., where he “launched Fox Sports Radio” in ’00 (RADIOFACTS.com, 3/26).
