Archie Manning Leaves CFP Committee, With Bobby Johnson Taking His Place

Archie Manning is "leaving the College Football Playoff selection committee and will be replaced by former Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson," according to the AP. Manning, who took a leave of absence last season "to deal with health issues related to knee surgery," was expected to serve through the '16 season (AP, 3/27). Manning said that being on the committee "would prevent him from watching" his sons, Broncos QB Peyton Manning and Giants QB Eli Manning, play their NFL games on Sundays and Mondays. In New Orleans, Christopher Dabe noted the CFP committee "regularly met on Mondays and Tuesdays" during the season (NOLA.com, 3/27). ESPN.com's Chris Low wrote Johnson "is an absolute home run replacement" for Manning, and "just having him involved in the sport again is a big win for college football." Johnson "is the epitome of integrity." He is "smart, thoughtful and widely respected." Johnson "loves college football, knows the game inside-out and has made a career of doing things the right way" (ESPN.com, 3/27).
