Candid On Cameras: Belichick Reportedly Lets Loose On NFL Not Approving Pylon Cameras

Patriots coach Bill Belichick "strongly voiced his displeasure Tuesday that the league didn't want to spend the money to put four cameras in the end zone to give referees better angles on replay reviews," according to a source cited by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. The source said that Belichick "made his point with choice language." The source added that Belichick "expressed concern that the league is willing to spend top dollar to send the Pro Bowl to Brazil and play regular-season games in London every season but doesn't appear willing to spend the money to pay for the extra cameras it would take to cover all end zone angles to assist instant replay" (ESPN.com, 3/25). Schefter said, “The way it was explained to me from people who were in the room at the time, they were laughing at it because his language was so profane and because he was so incensed about it and the NFL didn’t know how to handle it” (“Olbermann,” ESPN, 3/25). CSN New England's Tom Curren said, "This is the first time over the last couple of years that he’s been this involved in rules proposals and trying to better the game. ... I’m not surprised that the bureaucracy and the legislative red tape that he has to cut through would leave him dropping an F-bomb or two” ("SportsNet Central," CSN New England, 3/25). However, PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio cited sources as saying that Belichick "did not engage in a profane tirade." One source said that there "may have been a single F-bomb uttered by Belichick while sharing his views." The source: "The quote was something like, 'Let me get this straight, we can bring this game to Brazil and effing China but we can't afford to put a camera in a pylon?'" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 3/25).
