Texans Expect $50M Upgrades To NRG Stadium To Be Completed By '17 Super Bowl

Texans Owner Robert McNair "didn't sound too concerned about the behind-the-scenes negotiations with Harris County to make improvements at NRG Stadium" before Super Bowl LI in '17, according to John McClain of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. NFL Senior VP/Events Peter O'Reilly on a recent visit to Houston said that improvements to the suites and club seats -- as well as the installation of Wi-Fi -- "must be made before the Super Bowl." Sources said that the improvements "total more than" $50M. McNair said of the county, "All indications from them is that they're going to take care of it. I'm pleased to see we're going to have some action." McClain noted fans and media "would like to have Wi-Fi in time for the season." McNair said, "We want people to have a good experience at our games so they'll want to come back. We've got to make sure that happens. ... Hopefully, it'll be available real soon." He added, "I'd hope they could (get it available this season), but I don't know that it'll be this year. The key is we need to do these things as the need becomes apparent and not put it off" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/21).
