3 Key Rehab Devices For Derrick Rose To Return From His Latest Knee Injury

Three-time NBA All-Star and Most Valuable Player in 2011, Derrick Rose, recently had his second surgery on the same torn meniscus in his right knee that he tore in 2013 playing against the Portland Trail Blazers. Rose has missed most of the previous two seasons with surgeries on both of his knees. Luckily for him, however, his surgery on Feb. 27 was successful as doctors set an approximate time-table to return to play in about 4-6 weeks. It is already about two weeks since his rehabilitation started and it seems likely that he will return within the time-table. However, there are three devices that Rose can use to aid him in his rehab progress as he tries to make his return before the NBA Playoffs begin.

1. Torn meniscuses are very common in sports, especially basketball, so rehabbing in the best state-of-the-art equipment is necessary to return from injury as soon as possible. The Body Solid Pro Dual Leg Extension and Curl Machine is a great technological machine that can be used to help Rose return from rehab. It has a biomechanically accurate pivot point that ensures correct body positioning for complete development of multiple muscles in the lower body. In each repetition, the meniscus makes a full range-of-motion that allows both legs to extend working out the quadriceps. Rose’s torn meniscus would be put to the test by this machine, but it would help with rehabilitating his knee and regaining strength, nonetheless.

2. X-Factor Knee Brace, a device that compresses and provides warmth for knee joint stability, is another device that can be used for Rose’s rehab process. The brace would allow the meniscus tear to be supported while in full range-of-motion, helping to prevent further injury to the knee. Lateral stability also would be protected in his knee as this is a key aspect to what Rose could face when playing in a full contact NBA game.

3. Last, but definitely not least, Rose could use therapeutic ultrasound administration. What ultrasound therapy would do is to pulse frequencies of 1.0W/cm2 or higher to the knee that would lessen the pain and range-of-motion symptoms from the meniscus tear. Studies have shown that with therapeutic ultrasound administration and proper rest recovery, a meniscus tear would have a full recovery, just what Rose needs after dealing with three separate surgeries in as many years with the Chicago Bulls.

Here’s to a speedy recovery for the former MVP.
