Franchise Notes

On Long Island, Brodsky & Baumbach note NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly on Thursday "cast doubt on Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano's suggestion that construction of a practice facility and office space" for Islanders, "along with improvements to the Nassau Coliseum, could lure the team back to Long Island." Daly: "We have been given no indication by the Islanders, or by anyone else, that the move to Brooklyn is or will be temporary" (NEWSDAY, 3/13).

Heat fans are supporting Riley through a series
of social media hashtags
IN PAT WE TRUST: BLEACHER REPORT's Ethan Skolnick wrote some people "may doubt" Heat President Pat Riley, "but not in South Florida." Heat fans "have rallied" behind Riley, still "labeling him 'The Godfather' and creating #InRilesWeTrust hashtags." Riley said that he "feels 'honored and absolutely respected in this town,' crediting it to longevity, and how 'somewhere along the way, down the road, when you're about ready to turn a certain age, people will give you that kind of respect and honor, as I would give them'" (BLEACHERREPORT.com, 3/12).

DIAMOND DIVERSITY: ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick wrote the D-Backs' acquisition of RF Yasmany Tomas "reflects an increased effort ... to appeal to their Latin fan base." About 40% of the Phoenix population "is Latino." The team in another "subtle touch" will have accent marks "appear on the back of Hispanic players' uniforms for the first time this season" (ESPN.com, 3/11).
