Wizards' Season Tickets Going Up In Cost By Average Of 22%

For the second year in a row, "the price of most Wizards season tickets will go up," with an average increase of 22%, according to Dan Steinberg of the WASHINGTON POST. The biggest price increases "come in the VIP sections," but on a percentage basis, "some 400-level and 100-level tickets will see sharp increases." More than 4,000 seats "will remain at the $16 rate," which is about 20% of the arena’s capacity. Many 100-level end zone seats "are increasing" from $35 to $46 (31%); others are going from $31 to $40 (29%). That also means "more than a third of lower-level season tickets -- about 2,200 of them -- will remain less than $50." The team "sold more than 3,000 new full-season tickets for this season," and has sold more than 95% of its 100-level seats. Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which was founded by Ted Leonsis, "instituted a three-year price freeze" shortly after obtaining a 100% interest in the Wizards in '11; "when that freeze expired last year, the team increased prices" by an average of about 11% (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/25).
