Going To Carolina: Charlotte's Quail Hollow Club Lands '21 Presidents Cup

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem today announced that Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte will host the '21 Presidents Cup. Finchem was joined at the announcement by Quail Hollow President Johnny Harris, N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory, '15 Presidents Cup Captain Jay Haas, Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter and Golf Channel’s Gary Williams. Finchem pointed to the success of the PGA Tour Wells Fargo Championship at the club in awarding it the Presidents Cup, saying there has not been any other event on the Tour “that took off so quickly and went to the top of the list for all of our players in the space of a year.” Harris first asked Finchem about hosting the Presidents Cup in '96, and Finchem today said jokingly, “I apologize it’s taken us a few years to get here, but we’re delighted to be here.” The '21 event marks the first time a course in the southeast has been chosen to host the Presidents Cup.

YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS? Finchem after today's press conference told THE DAILY that to grow the game of golf, the PGA Tour does not necessarily depend on how many people play the game, but instead on tournament attendance and TV viewership because that turns viewers into participants. Finchem: “The way to get young people in the game is two things -- excite them to be involved and that really is about the top women and men players playing great. And secondly, getting the game to them, getting them access to the game. We do the first one great. We’ve got to continue to build on what we’re doing with the second, which is bringing the game to people.”
