M-V-P! M-V-P! Dodgers, Angels Team Up In Billboard Campaign Featuring Trout, Kershaw

Angels CF Mike Trout and Dodgers P Clayton Kershaw are featured in a new billboard campaign as part of a "joint promotion" between the two teams, according to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. TIMES. The first of two billboards featuring the reigning NL and AL MVPs was unveiled yesterday, with the text, "Is Your MVP Red Or Blue." Dodgers VP/Marketing & Broadcasting Erik Braverman said that the cost of the billboards "will be split between the teams." Neither he nor Angels VP/Marketing & Ticket Sales Robert Alvarado could "recall the teams previously cooperating on a joint promotion." The concept "originated with the Angels and grew out of talks between the teams on how each could benefit from the NL and AL MVPs playing in the same market." Alvarado said that the location of the first billboard -- eight miles from Dodger Stadium -- was chosen for its proximity to local TV stations and "was not intended to slight Orange County fans." Alvarado: "This is a little bit more of a social media play. We needed some kind of platform to launch it" (L.A. TIMES, 2/18).
