Pitch Perfect: David Beckham Reflects On His Career As A Product Endorser

David Beckham appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night and reflected on his career as a product endorser while promoting his personalized brand of Haig Whisky. The spirits company recently released its Haig Club line, and Beckham said, “They wanted to bring a new single grain whisky into the market. It’s very versatile, can be drank neat.” Kimmel asked, “Are you at all concerned that it looks like a cologne bottle? It looks like 40 years worth of cologne.” Beckham then discussed one of the oddest products he has ever promoted. He said, “I’ve endorsed quite a few things over my career and over my life, but probably one of the weirdest ones that I did was a brand in China. I remember being on the shoot and they brought this car door out and said, ‘Can you put it over your shoulder and smile?’ And I did it, believe it or not. It was a car parts firm. They’re a good firm, of course. They sold a lot of doors.” Beckham made headlines last year with his appearance in H&M’s Super Bowl ad, but he called it “embarrassing because I was in my underwear.” Beckham: “It came on the screen in the box (he was sitting in during Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium), and there were about 15 people in there. So I decided to then go outside because I thought, ‘I don’t really want to see people’s reactions to me running around in my underwear.’ Apparently it went down well.” He is not appearing in a Super Bowl ad this year, and he said, “I’m 40 in May, so getting a little bit older now, and running around in my underwear, not everyone wants to see that” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 1/28).
