Weekend Plans With Disney VP/Digital Distribution Christen Harris: Cooking, Friends

Following a busy week of planning sessions, meeting with prospective and existing digital customers and a co-op board meeting on Friday night, Disney & ESPN Media VP/Digital Distribution CHRISTEN HARRIS is looking forward to a weekend away from the office, whether watching tennis at her home in the Tribeca neighborhood of N.Y., or catching a show in town with friends. Whatever the case may be, Harris always manages to get some much needed R&R to make sure she is geared up to go for the upcoming work week. Harris: “My guilty weekend pleasure is doing nothing. How often do you get to do that?” Here, Harris tells THE DAILY how she plans to spend this frigid January weekend in the Big Apple.

TOP CHEF: I tend not to do a lot on Friday nights; I prefer to go out during the week instead. It’s unfortunate, but on weekends I realistically only sleep in until 8:00am. I wish it was later, but it never is. My favorite breakfast spots are Freeman’s and a place called Hundred Acres, which is near my apartment. I like savory, so I usually go to the egg dishes. Some favorite restaurants in my neighborhood are The Dutch, which serves a little bit of everything, and an Italian place called Locanda Verde. I tend to go to L.A., S.F. and Seattle on the West Coast. When I’m in L.A., I like to go to Sushi Nozawa. I’m actually taking cooking classes at The Culinary Institute in N.Y. I usually cook more on the weekends than during the week. I try to mix it up by going to the Farmers’ Market for some new ingredient and then try to make something around that. On Sunday nights I try to make a pot of something to eat that we can have all week like chili or soup.

UNCHAINED MELODY: My husband is out of town this weekend, so I am going to catch up with some friends. Probably go to Yoga, go to brunch and watch the movie “BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD.” It’s accompanied by an orchestra, so it should be interesting. I watch a couple of HBO shows on the weekend. I’m a big “GAME OF THRONES” fan and I also like “VEEP,” as well as “GIRLS.” I’m looking forward to those coming back. My reading has included catching up on old New Yorker’s lately. The articles are so good I just continue to read them. I just started reading a book called “THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS.” I don’t tweet but I read Twitter a lot, and I‘m on Facebook a fair amount. I like to go out dancing on occasion, but I never get to. It is too late for me these days. The last time I danced was probably at a wedding. I also like to see live bands. I recently saw ALT-J and I really liked the new BECK album this year. I’ve always been a fan of him.

MISTY MOUNTAIN HOP: On Sunday, I’m going to watch the Australian Open. I am a huge tennis fan, it’s my sport. In the summer -- not so much in the winter -- I love to ride my bike. My husband and I tend to get on our bikes and ride all day and go all over the city. We’ll go to Queens, Brooklyn or different areas of Manhattan and stop along the way. We live in N.Y., where it has been cold, so my favorite weekend recently was going to Miami. The weather was so nice, it was like 75 and sunny. We rented bikes, went for a run, just got outside. It was great. My favorite weekend getaway is Tulum, Mexico or the Catskills. In Tulum, you just lay on the beach, but in the Catskills I like to hike. I do Barry’s Bootcamp, which is 15 minutes of treadmill running, followed by weights for 15 minutes, then you get back on the treadmill for 15 minutes and you finish back on the weights. I love to run and do yoga, those are my big things, but I tend not to go to the regular gym.
