MLB Giants To Convert Portion Of Parking Lot Into Pop-Up Beer Garden, Retail Center

The MLB Giants "will convert a portion" one of the club's parking lots near from AT&T Park into a year-round pop-up venue with an Anchor Steam beer garden, coffee shop, retail stores and a waterfront deck," according to J.K. Dineen of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Dubbed the "Yard," the 18,000-square-foot project is "being pitched as a way to activate a portion of the property while the team works on winning approvals for its much bigger Mission Rock project." Details will be presented today to the S.F. Port Commission, with "plans to open" the "Yard" in March. Giants Dir of Real Estate Fran Weld said that the "Yard" will "serve a south-of-Mission Creek neighborhood that has a dearth of eating and drinking spots." Dineen notes the project "will use 15 shipping containers salvaged from the Port of Oakland." The Giants will spend $2.5M on the effort and "pay $77,000 in annual rent." The port will get 25% of revenue, but "not until the team has recouped" the $2.5M it will invest on construction. The project is being designed by S.F.-based Gehl Architects Associate & Head of Team Blaine Merker (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/13).
