Wallace Among Up-And-Coming NASCAR Drivers Without Firm Sponsorship In '15

Most NASCAR drivers "like to have their sponsorship lined up" at this point of the offseason for the following year, but there are several "young drivers scrambling for sponsorship or still trying to figure out their 2015 plans," according to Bob Pockrass of SPORTING NEWS. That group includes Darrell Wallace Jr., Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher and Jeb Burton. Wallace plans to run in the Xfinity Series in '15, and he hopes his win in the season-ending Camping World Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway "will help" in finding deals. He said, "It's getting people looking, and that's what we have to do." Pockrass reported Joe Gibbs Racing in the week after Wallace's win "had some meetings that they hoped would land more sponsorship for Wallace, the only full-time African-American driver in the three national series." Meanwhile, if Wallace races in the CWTS next year, it "won't be for the team he has driven for the last two years," Kyle Busch Motorsports. Busch said of landing sponsorship, "I don't know what you have to do. We have won 14 of 22 races and we have nobody calling." Busch: "Darrell Wallace, if he's not the most marketable driver in the truck series, I don't know who else would be. He's fun. He's engaging. He's witty. He loves to do anything you want him to do. He's a PR dream." Pockrass noted Blaney, who plans to drive 12 races at the Cup level for Wood Brothers Racing, does not have "full sponsorship for any series," while Buescher "could compete for another season with limited sponsorship and Roush Fenway footing part of the bill" despite finishing seventh in the final Nationwide Series standings. The circuit is changing its name to the Xfinity Series next year. Burton this year got a "full-time truck deal with sponsor Estes Express Lines and ThorSport Racing," but he is "waiting to hear if the sponsorship will be renewed next season" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 11/24).
