NBA Marketing Notes: Verizon Wrap Turns US Airways Center Scoreboard Into A Tablet

The Suns last night at their home opener debuted a wrap that transformed the center court scoreboard at US Airways Center into a Verizon branded tablet. The branded scoreboard is part of the team’s renewal deal with Verizon. The telecom provider also has team deals with the Lakers and Jazz, but this is the first scoreboard wrap for the company. Meanwhile, the Suns and Annexus announced a multiyear renewal of their sponsorship deal that adds the designation of apron signage partner. The Annexus logo now appears on both the home and away benches. The extension maintains naming rights to the Annexus Practice Facility, team practice jerseys and Club Annexus premium area at U.S. Airways Center (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

TICKET TO RIDE: In Philadelphia, John George reported the 76ers have "extended and expanded their partnership with StubHub, operator of the team's official fan-to-fan ticket marketplace." StubHub "will have an increased presence at the Wells Fargo Center with signage on all basket stanchions and pole pads." It also will "have its name on the scoreboard and on a 360-degree LED ring sign." Another new addition is StubHub's "commemorative ticket experience," which provides fans the opportunity to "take photo booth photos and create their own personalized, take-home hard ticket with their choice of six backgrounds" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/29).

NORTH BY NORTHEAST: Toronto-based sports equipment retailer Sport Chek has partnered with the Raptors on the #MyNorth campaign, which will celebrate the area's basketball scene. Sport Chek's 10-year relationship with the team is part of a larger strategic partnership announced in September '13 between the Canadian Tire family of companies and MLSE. The #MyNorth campaign focuses on nine neighborhoods, each of which will have a TSN-produced documentary and out-of-home signage built around relevant locations to the basketball community (Sport Chek).
