Rose Bowl's Busy Year Leads To Complaints From Locals Over Noise, Traffic

With 18 events at Rose Bowl Stadium in '14, it is "the second busiest year" in the venue's history, and next year "is already on track to continue the trend," according to Lauren Gold of the PASADENA STAR-NEWS. The stadium "proposes 16 large events" next year, and more events "mean much needed revenue for the 100-year-old stadium, which just completed a costly renovation." However, the stadium's "massive success has caused an increased burden on the residents of the neighborhoods surrounding" the venue, leading to complaints about "traffic management, security and noise levels" from the summer events. Many locals "expressed dismay at the profanity coming through their windows" during the Eminem and Rihanna concerts in August. For the sound issues, the stadium has "hired consultant David Revel, of Technical Multimedia, who took measurements during all the summer concerts and is preparing a plan to better control sound coming from the bowl." Stadium officials said that they "hear the residents' issues 'loud and clear' and want to find a happy medium." Some of the suggestions during a community meeting on Wednesday included "a limit on weekday events, a commitment to never go as high as 18 again in one year and limiting the number of big events in one week to two" (PASADENA STAR-NEWS, 10/27).
