Univ. of Michigan Lowers Student Football Season-Ticket Prices By 37.5% For '15

The Univ. of Michigan on Thursday announced it has "cut the price of season football tickets" for students by 37.5% for the '15 season, according to Nick Baumgardner of MLIVE.com. Season tickets will now cost $175, down from $280 this season. UM raised student-ticket prices prior to the '13 season and "had been the highest-priced student ticket in the Big Ten." The school will now "tie for the fourth-most expensive ticket" in the conference if current rates hold. The decision to drop prices comes after the school "saw student season ticket numbers dip from 21,000 to around 13,000" this season. UM also announced that "non-student season ticket prices will not change" in '15. The "face value for a general public season ticket ... will remain at $65 per game for the third straight season" (MLIVE.com, 10/23). In Detroit, Angelique Chengelis notes the seven-game student ticket package next year "includes games at Michigan Stadium against Michigan State and Ohio State." There will also be a "reduced pricing structure for students with financial need." UM in '13 "implemented a general-admission seating policy for students that failed miserably." Student-ticket sales have declined each of the last few years, but "there was a significant dive" after last season, "in part because of that seating policy and also because the team was coming off a 7-6 season" (DETROIT NEWS, 10/24).
