Final Ratings: CBS Ends U.S. Open Run With Lower Figures For Championships

CBS ended its run as primary broadcaster of the U.S. Open with lower ratings for both the men’s and women’s final. Marin Cilic’s straight-sets win over Kei Nishikori earned a 1.6 rating (2.2 million viewers) late on Monday afternoon, marking the lowest-rated men’s final in at least the last 20 years. The men’s final has aired on a Monday since ’08. Meanwhile, Serena Williams’ win over Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday afternoon drew a 2.9 final rating (4.5 million viewers). That is the lowest figure in four years for the women’s final, which have each featured Williams and aired on Sunday afternoons up against football.

NOTES: The final NASCAR race before the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup finished down from ’13. The Federated Auto Parts 400 from Richmond Int’l Raceway on Saturday night drew a 3.0 rating and 4.9 million viewers on ABC, down from a 3.3 rating and 5.2 million viewers last year....Fox drew a 3.5 rating and 6.0 million viewers for Michigan State-Oregon last Saturday, marking the net's best regular-season college football audience on record.

The charts below list final ratings from recent sports telecasts. Select ratings for CBS broadcasts were unavailable at presstime.
