Nike, NFLShop.com, Dick's Sporting Goods, Modell's Among Retailers Pulling Ray Rice Gear

The NFL and Nike online stores following the release of video showing Ray Rice punching his then fiance have pulled Rice's jerseys "off their sites, as did some brick-and-mortar stores," according to Marbella & Wenger of the Baltimore SUN. The three Dick's Sporting Goods stores in the Baltimore area also "emptied their racks of Rice gear" after receiving an e-mail from corporate HQ. But for some, the NFL “didn't repair its image" with yesterday's suspension (Baltimore SUN, 9/9). In DC, Marissa Payne notes Rice items from "jerseys to bobbleheads to signed helmets have been marked 'discontinued' on NFLshop.com. Modell’s also “stripped their virtual shelves of Rice gear." However, Rice jerseys and other memorabilia "remained available via Sports Authority, Eastbay and others," as of 5:00pm ET yesterday (WASHINGTON POST, 9/9). NBC's Dave Briggs notes Nike today has dropped its endorsement of Rice and EA Sports has scrubbed Rice from its "Madden 15" video game ("Fast Money Halftime Report," CNBC, 9/9). The Ravens on the team's official Twitter account announced it "will offer an exchange" for Rice jerseys at stadium stores" (TWITTER.com, 9/9).
