Levi's Stadium Expected To Create 12,000 Jobs, But Most Are Temporary, Low-Paying

Levi's Stadium will "create about 12,000 jobs, but they represent a rather modest economic boomlet because the vast majority are temporary construction jobs or part-time and relatively low-paid service jobs on game days," according to George Avalos of the OAKLAND TRIBUNE. Through early July, work at the 49ers' new stadium had "created about 7,800 construction jobs, some of which have already ended." On event days, the stadium is "expected to employ" about 4,500 people. Only about 60 jobs at the stadium will "provide permanent, full-time employment." Many of those are "executive positions in marketing, sales and operations." Those hired for events such as football games are "expected to be paid $13 to $26 per hour" (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 7/13).

SAN FRANCISCO TREAT: In S.F., Matier & Ross reported celebrity chef Michael Mina will have a "year-round restaurant at the stadium with a parking lot that will turn into a tailgate section on game days." Concession stands will "sell 16 types of wine and an assortment of cheeses." In all, fans will have "180 menu items to choose from." Concessionaire Centerplate Dir of Marketing & Communications Diana Evans said, "We'll have more vegan options than any other stadium, and none of them are tofu" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/13).
