Falcons GM Dimitroff Reiterates That Team Supports Involvement In HBO's "Hard Knocks"

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff over the weekend “reiterated how the Falcons are totally behind the decision to be a part of 'Hard Knocks' this season,” but it was “far from a mandate" from team Owner Arthur Blank, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. He added that the team "wouldn’t have accepted the invitation" had coach Mike Smith "not signed off on it.” Dimitroff: "This was not a brand play, period. We think the series will give the fans that in-depth look; the idea of being able to see what the Atlanta Falcons are truly about and how we run our organization and how we’re mindful and professional about how we carry on our business." McClure noted part of HBO's process for the show includes a trip to Houston, "where the Falcons and Texans will hold a pair of joint practices (Aug. 13-14) leading up to their Aug. 16 preseason matchup.” Dimitroff prior to signing off on participating with the show “thoroughly discussed the matter with the Texans.” Dimitroff: "I’ve talked to the general manager, Rick Smith, and (Mike Smith) has talked to Coach (Bill) O’Brien, and they are comfortable with it. ('Hard Knocks') will not be showcasing the other team that we will be visiting. They’ll continue to focus on our team." (ESPN.com, 6/15).

COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY: Bears CB Charles Tillman said of his team not appearing on this season of the HBO series, “I’m pretty relieved that we don’t have to go 'Hard Knocks.' I think it’s probably a big distraction for a lot of guys” (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/14).
