Knicks' New D-League Affiliate Adopts Parent Club's Moniker, Historic Logo

The Knicks yesterday announced that their new D-League affiliate will be called the Westchester Knicks, which was the "popular choice among fans," according to Josh Thomson of the Westchester JOURNAL NEWS. MSG Sports President Dave Howard hopes the "familiar 'Knicks' will allow the new team to take root quickly in the community." Thomson notes the Westchester Knicks are “scheduled to begin play this fall with a 25-game slate" at the Westchester County Center. The relationship between MSG and the county was pre-existing, as the Knicks and NHL Rangers have "both trained in the county for years." The D-League team's new logo will be "less familiar to fans, but is actually a nod to the club's past" (Westchester JOURNAL NEWS, 5/15).

ALL THAT JAZZ: In Utah, Jody Genessy cites sources as saying that the Jazz are “expected to soon announce an exclusive one-on-one affiliation” with the D-League Idaho Stampede. It would mark the “third time the Jazz and Stampede have had a working relationship,” going back to the ‘06-07 season. The Stampede “recently cut ties” with the Trail Blazers, and the Jazz were left without a D-League affiliate after the Bakersfield Jam partnered with the Suns (DESERET NEWS, 5/15).
