IndyCar Finalizing Three-Year Deal To Host Grand Prix Event In Louisiana

Hulman & Co. CEO Mark Miles characterized holding an IndyCar race in Jefferson Parish, La., as "part of the company's growth strategy," with plans for an event to be held at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale in '15, according to Jed Lipinski of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said that the event would "be known as the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana and could attract up to 80,000 spectators over the course of the three-day event." Jindal said that should the Legislature approve the proposal, the state will provide $4.5M to NOLA Motorsports Park "for improvements to the facility and the track." Miles said that the funds would "go toward increasing the safety of the course while also adding turning zones to make the race more exciting" (NOLA.com, 5/5). Jindal added that the "exact date of the race hasn't been announced yet as IndyCar hasn't set its schedule yet but that the agreement is for at least three years, with the hopes of the race becoming a permanent fixture on the circuit" (NOLA.com, 5/5).
