Dew Tour Adds Fourth Event, New Locales For Its 10th Aniversary

The Dew Tour will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with a return to Portland, Ore. for the first time since '11 for a two-day streetstyle-focused event, August 16-17. NBC will air two-and-a half hours of original programming from the Toyota City Championships, as well as two hours on NBCSN (Alli Sports). SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Tripp Mickle reports the Dew Tour "is expanding from three to four events" in '14, and in the process is going to N.Y. "for the first time." The event "will return" to Ocean City, Md. June 25-29 and Breckenridge, Colo. Dec. 11-14. However, the event will "drop two-time host" S.F. in favor of events for BMX and skateboarding in Portland in August and Brooklyn, Sept. 20-21. The expansion "comes two years after Alli Sports, the NBC division that oversees the tour, reduced the total number of Dew Tour events from seven to three." Alli Sports President Eric Grilly said that the change was "prompted by the opportunity to go to Brooklyn and host an event during the 10th anniversary of the tour at the House of Vans, a skatepark that the VF brand owns." Vans, which sponsored the Dew Tour from '05-09, is "not a sponsor of this year's tour but is hosting the Brooklyn event." The Dew Tour "continues to look for a title sponsor for its stop in Ocean City, Md." That event has been "without a sponsor since Pantech dropped its sponsorship" after the '12 season. Title sponsorships "are valued at" $2-3M annually (SPORTSBUSINESSJOURNAL, 5/5 issue).
