Bills Designate Games Against Patriots, Dolphins As "Gold" Under Variable-Pricing Plan

The Bills have designated their games against division rivals the Patriots and Dolphins as their "most expensive contests for individual-game ticket sales" in their first season using variable ticket pricing, according to Mark Gaughan of the BUFFALO NEWS. Games against the Chargers, Jets, Packers and Vikings are "designated as silver games." Two games -- against the Browns and Chiefs -- are "designated as bronze games." Individual-game tickets for the Patriots and Dolphins contests "range from $130 for the best sideline seats to $68 for the least expensive upper-deck and end zone seats." That is "mostly $10 to $14 more expensive than the silver games and $31 to $20 more expensive than the bronze games." There are "12 different levels of pricing" for tickets at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Season-ticket holders "in the middle of the lower bowl will pay $90 a game" this season. The "least expensive season tickets, in the upper deck, cost $260, or $26 a game" (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/30).

UNDER PRESSURE: In Buffalo, Jerry Sullivan wrote "someone is going to buy the Bills" so there "must be a heightened sense of urgency and unease in the front office as the team prepares for the first day of the NFL Draft on May 8." Bills GM Doug Whaley had a "stock reply when he was asked about the urgency of the moment." He twice said the NFL is a "results-driven business." Whaley has made "some good moves since becoming GM" in May '13, but the "best way to show a new owner that you're making real progress and changing a losing culture is to have a franchise quarterback in place" (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/28).
