Golfer Andrew Parr Looks To Crowdfunding In Effort To Increase Financial Backing

Golfer Andrew Parr, who is "considering options on the Web.com Tour, PGA Tour Canada and the European Tour," has turned to crowdfunding in an effort to get sponsorship, according to Scott Stinson of the NATIONAL POST. Parr's fundraising campaign, which has so far "generated almost" C$42,000 and ends on April 25, "is neither a straight donation nor an investment." Smaller donors "receive hats and shirts, but instruction packages and special one-day events" also are available. A C$10,000 donor "gets a team in a Web.com pro-am at the tour’s stop in Nova Scotia" and will visit the set of "Mr. D" -- a CBC comedy program. Parr’s golf coach, Sean Foley, "donated a day of instruction at his course in Orlando" listed at C$30,000 -- "and is as yet unclaimed." While bigger packages "haven’t been purchased," Parr’s supporters have donated an average of C$332. The 31-year-old Parr, who hails from Ontario, has "played on several pro tours on multiple continents" since '07 and is "familiar with the various ways that a golfer can try to scratch out a living." Parr said, “You need about [C]$75,000 for a season. ... It can cost [C$25,000] just to get a caddy to sign on for a year. And if you miss the cut, you probably just spent [C$2,000 or C$3,000] for that week with nothing coming back. So, yeah, it does take a lot of money." Parr added, “After looking at all the options of what guys have done, I thought ‘Let’s just try something completely different.'" Parr: "I’ve kind of been-there-and-done-that will all those other avenues and I wanted to change up the mentality of how I looked at golf sponsorship” (NATIONAL POST, 4/23).
