Franchise Notes

In Buffalo, Mike Harrington notes Sabres GM Tim Murray yesterday was "asked point-blank about the potential of the Sabres or other teams tanking next season." Murray said, “We want to be competitive. If anybody thinks that there’s a message of tanking being sent from upstairs, I would suggest they put a camera on me for 60 minutes of the game when we’re losing and you’ll know that tanking is not what I want. I want to play properly. I want to be competitive" (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/16).

GOING FISHING: In Miami, Barry Jackson cites sources as saying that Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross and Pro Football HOFer Dan Marino "met recently to discuss a potential job with the organization and those conversations will continue." Ross and Marino "haven’t yet settled on what would be the best fit for him, but both parties want to make it work and he could end up involved in multiple aspects of the organization." A role on the football side is "possible down the road, but probably not in the next few months" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 4/16). Meanwhile, Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey yesterday said that he "plans to create an analytics department" (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 4/15).

GUESSING GAME: ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner noted the Rams on Monday announced that any person who predicts their '14 schedule with 100% accuracy "will win $100,000." To win the prize, participants must "correctly hit on all facets of the schedule, including each game's opponent, location, the exact date of the game and the date of the team's bye week" (ESPN.com, 4/15).

GIVE ME LIBERTY: The WNBA Liberty during the Draft on Monday unveiled new uniforms for the '14 season. Similar to the team's inaugural unis, the new away look features black as the prominent color with accents in seafoam, orange and blue. The white home jersey has black accents along the sides as opposed to the blue, which previously appeared on the jersey from '03-13 (Liberty).
