Fox led all non-Masters sports telecasts over the weekend with a 3.2 overnight rating for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway on Saturday night. The event, which was held on Mothers’ Day weekend from ’05-13, drew a 3.5 overnight last year. During the same April weekend last year, NASCAR ran a Saturday night race from Texas Motor Speedway, which drew a 3.5 overnight.
EASTERN FRONT: ESPN drew a 2.1 overnight for the Red Sox-Yankees “Sunday Night Baseball” telecast last night. That rating is flat compared to the first Red Sox-Yankees “SNB” matchup last year, which was June 2. Compared to Orioles-Yankees on the same weekend in ’13, last night’s rating was up from a 1.8.
NOTES: ESPN drew a 0.6 overnight for the Union College-Minnesota NCAA men’s hockey championship on Saturday night, up from a 0.4 rating for Yale-Quinnipiac last year....ABC drew a 2.3 overnight for Thunder-Pacers yesterday afternoon, down from a 2.5 overnight for the comparable Bulls-Heat matchup last year.
