College Facility Notes: N.C. State Releases Details For Reynolds Coliseum Upgrades

In Raleigh, Joe Giglio noted N.C. State Univ. recently unveiled its plans "to renovate Reynolds Coliseum and create a 'Walk of Fame and History' at the campus landmark." The $35M project will begin next March and "is expected to be completed" by August '16. NCSU AD Debbie Yow "helped create the hall of fame two years ago and there have been two classes inducted but there’s no physical home for it." This project also will upgrade the facility for the "women’s basketball, wrestling and volleyball teams." The renovation will decrease the venue's capacity for basketball from "just less than 10,000" to approximately 5,500 (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 4/10).

CINCI AND SENSIBILITY: Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn said that improving Fifth Third Arena for men's and women's basketball "is now the top priority" for the athletic department. The school is conducting a feasibility study and Bohn said that it will include "an analysis about whether it would make sense to move the men's games downtown to U.S. Bank Arena if the arena makes a commitment to renovate that facility to UC's satisfaction" (CINCINNATI.com, 4/9).

TROJAN HORSE? A recent survey about renovations at L.A. Memorial Coliseum raised the possibility of implementing PSLs for some seats, but USC AD Pat Haden in an e-mail to fans wrote that "no decisions have been made." Haden: "There has been a range of opinions, both positive and negative, and those ideas will be considered at every step in the process. ... We need to be cognizant that not every long-time USC fan wants a premium option and we need to provide an affordable experience for those fans" (LATIMES.com, 4/9).
