Overnight Ratings: MLB Debuts On FS1; ESPN Sees Decline For Women's Final Four

FS1 aired the network’s first MLB regular season games on Saturday. The net drew a 0.3 overnight rating for Twins-Indians from 1:00-4:00pm ET and a 0.4 overnight for Giants-Dodgers from 4:00-8:00pm. For comparison, ESPN2 on Saturday drew a 0.2 overnight for the WTA Family Circle Cup semifinal featuring Andrea Petkovic-Eugenie Bouchard from 1:00-3:30pm and a 0.1 overnight for the Arkansas-Alabama college softball game from 5:40-8:00pm. ESPN on Saturday from 12:00-1:45pm drew a 0.4 overnight for the National High School Basketball Tournament Championship.

LADIES’ NIGHT: ESPN saw an audience decline for the women’s Final Four on Sunday night. UConn-Stanford led the way with a 1.6 overnight in the late window from 9:00-11:00pm, down 16% from UConn-Notre Dame last year. In the early window from 6:30-8:30pm, Notre Dame-Maryland earned a 1.2 overnight, down 20% from a 1.5 overnight for Louisville-Cal last year.

HOOPS HYPE: With the rainout of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, ABC’s Knicks-Heat matchup yesterday from 1:00-3:45pm led all broadcast TV sports telecasts over the weekend with a 2.5 overnight. However, that figure was down from a 2.8 overnight for Knicks-Thunder on the comparable weekend last year. Meanwhile, Lakers-Clippers drew a 2.4 overnight in the late ABC window yesterday, down sharply from a 3.6 overnight for the same matchup last year.

The chart below lists overnight ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
