Hockey Canada President & CEO BOB NICHOLSON officially “stepped down” from his position on Friday, effective June 1. Nicholson said, “I’m going to take some time. … I’m sure I’m going to do something, but there is nothing immediate.” Hockey Canada COO SCOTT SMITH “is one candidate to replace Nicholson.” The “thinking has started” that Nicholson will “wind up in the front office” of an NHL club at some point (TORONTO SUN, 4/5). The Hockey News “has been speculating since 2012 that Nicholson would be in line to replace” IIHF President RENE FASEL, “becoming the first Canadian in over 50 years to run that show” (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 4/3).
