Overnight Ratings: NASCAR Down For Martinsville; IndyCar Opener Struggles

Fox drew a 3.8 overnight rating for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series STP 500 from Martinsville Speedway yesterday. The same race during the last two years has been run on Final Four weekend and did not feature competition from men’s college basketball games. The net last year earned a 4.0 overnight, while the race in ’12 earned a 3.9 overnight. ABC aired the Verizon IndyCar Series season opener yesterday afternoon, drawing a 0.6 overnight for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Last year’s season-opener aired on NBCSN. ABC in ’12 drew a 1.1 overnight for the season opener, which also aired during Elite Eight weekend. ESPN drew a 1.5 for its “Sunday Night Baseball” opener featuring Dodgers-Padres last night. That figure is flat compared to the net’s Rangers-Astros opener last year.
