Winnipeg Expected To Be Awarded '15 Grey Cup; NHL Heritage Classic To Follow?

The CFL tomorrow will formally announce that the '15 Grey Cup will be held at Investors Group Field, marking the "fourth time the Grey Cup has been played" in Winnipeg, according to Paul Friesen of the WINNIPEG SUN. CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon will travel to Winnipeg to make the announcement. The city was "originally seen as a potential host" for this year's game, but delays "in building the new stadium pushed that plan back." It is expected the capacity at Investors Group Field "will be expanded from 33,500 to some 40,000, with temporary seating" (WINNIPEGSUN.com, 3/24). In Winnipeg, Gary Lawless reported following the Grey Cup announcement, the NHL is expected to announce that the league is "bringing its Heritage Classic outdoor game to Winnipeg in late February or early March of 2016." The Jets "have been told they will host an outdoor game and have told the NHL they want to play it in 2016" (WINNIPEGFREEPRESS.com, 3/24).
