Astros Name Amanda Rykoff To Newly Created Position Of Social Media Manager

Rykoff previously has written for espnW,
Sports On Earth and Awful Announcing
The Astros have tapped freelance writer AMANDA RYKOFF for their newly created position of Social Media Manager. Rykoff begins her role today and is responsible for the creation and execution of social media strategies across platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Vine, Instagram and other emerging technologies. She has previously written for Awful Announcing, espnW, One World Sports and Sports On Earth. “Right now, the priority is to reestablish a really strong connection with the fan base,” said Rykoff. “It’s about reestablishing the connections with the die-hard fans who have stuck with the team, as the last few years have been a little bit rough under the new ownership and with a new direction, but also bringing in a lot of the casual fans who are starting to hear about the excitement and the young players that are coming through.” Rykoff hopes to stay ahead of the curve in her new role. She wants to provide fans with greater behind-the-scenes access to a variety of Astros players and execs across multiple platforms. A couple of new technologies Rykoff is keeping her eye on are Reddit and SnapChat. “We want to be very proactive in terms of the way that we’re going to connect with the fans and find the new places where some of these forward thinking fans are living in the social sphere,” she said. Rykoff for the next couple weeks will work remotely from her home in N.Y -- as well as spend a few days at the Astros’ Spring Training camp in Kissimmee, Fla. -- before relocating to Houston in time for Opening Day.
