NFL Competition Committee Unlikely To Make Major Changes On Replay, Playoffs For '14

The NFL's Competition Committee is "unlikely to make major changes to the replay system or playoffs this year," according to Michael Marot of the AP. The committee yesterday "discussed both issues during a meeting in Indianapolis but reached no consensus on either issue." More meetings are "scheduled later this week." Giants President & CEO John Mara said of using one location to review plays, "There's still a lot of discussion to be done. I think it's going to be difficult to get done on that this year." League officials last season noted there were some "errant decisions made on replay reviews, which prompted critics to suggest the calls should be taken away from the officials on the field and be made instead by someone else." Commissioner Roger Goodell also said that he "did not expect a system change to be approved for next season, a sentiment that resounded throughout the competition committee." But Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said, "I don't think people are for that. That's just a matter of the things we talk about" (AP, 2/19).
